Smith has written over two dozen books for young adults, including The Vampire Diaries , now a hit TV show. She loves to walk the trails and beaches in Point Reyes, California, daydreaming about her latest book. Beneath her feet tatters of autumn leaves were freezing into the slush. Dusk had fallen, and altbough the storm was dying away the Woods were getting colder. Elena didn't feel the cold. Neither did she mind the dark. Her pupils opened wide, gathering up tiny particles of light that would havebeen invisible to a humnan.
She could see the two figures struggling th the great oak tree quite clearly. One had thick dark hair, which the wind churned into a tumbled sea of waves.

He was slightly taller than the other, and although Elena couldn't see his face she somehow knew his eyes were green. The other had a shock of dark hair as well, but his was fine and straight, almost like the pelt of an animal.
His lips were drawn back from his teeth in fury, and the lounging grace of his body was gathered into a predator's crouch. His eyes were black. Elena watched them for several minutes, without moving.
She'd forgotten why she had come here, why she'd been pulled here by the echoes of their battle in her mind. This close the clamor of their anger and hatred and pain was almost deafening, like silent shouts coming from the fighters. They were locked in a death match. I wonder which of them will win, she thought. They were both, wounded and bleeding, and the taller one's left arm hung at a unnatural angle. Still, he had just slam the other against the gnarled trunk of an oak tree.
His fury was so strong that Elena could feel and taste it as well as hear it, and knew it was giving him impossible strength. And, then Elena -remembered why she had come.
How could she have forgotten? He was hurt. His mind had summoned her here, battering herwith shock waves of rage and pain. She had come to help him because she belonged to, him. Two figures were down on the icy ground now, fighting like wolves, snarling.

Swiftly and silently Elena went to them. The one with the wavy hair and green eyes -- Stefan , a voice in her mind whispered -- was on top, fingers scrabbling at the other's throat. Anger washed through Elena, anger and protectiveness. She reached between the two of them to grab that choking hand, to pry the fingers up. It didn't occur to her that she shouldn't be strong enough to do this.

She was strong was all. She threw her weight to the side, wrenching, her captive away from his opponent. For good measure, she bore down on his wounded arm, knocking him flat on his face in the leaf-strewn slush. Then shebegan to choke him from behind.
Her attack had taken him by surprise, but he was farfrom beaten. He struck back at her, His good hand fumbling for her throat. His thumb dug into her windpipe. Elena found herself lunging at the hand, going for it with her teeth.
Her mind could not understand it, but her body knew what to do. Her teeth, were a weapon, and they slashed into flesh, drawing blood. But he was stronger than she was. With a jerk of his shoulders, he broke her hold on him and twisted in her grasp, flinging her down.
And then he was, above her, his face contorted with animal fury. She hissed at him and went for his eyes with her nails, but he knocked her hand away. He was going to kill her. Even wounded, he was by far the stronger. His lips had drawn back to show teeth already stained with scarlet. Like a cobra, he was ready to strike. Elena saw the green eyes, widen. The pupils which had been contracted to vicious dots, sprang open. He was staring down at, her as if truly seeing her for the first time.
Why was he looking at her that way? Why didn't he just get it over with? But now the iron hand on her, shoulder was releasing her. He sat back, helping her to sit up, all the while gazing into her face. It didn't really matter. She cast a, glance toward the old oak tree. He was still there, standing between the upthrust roots, panting, supporting himself against it with one hand.
He was looking at her with his endlessly black eyes, his brows drawn together in a frown. Don't worry, she thought. I can take care of this one. He's stupid. It was incredibly upsetting for me to get that far into it and fin I have not been impressed with this series and once again, this one didn't really impress me.
It was incredibly upsetting for me to get that far into it and finally have something happens that really grips my attention only for it to come to such a fast conclusion. It's beyond frustrating as, if I remember correctly, this has happened in every book so far. Also, the writing. I think I have talked about the writing with the previous two books as well, but it is not any better here.
It's incredibly simple and after reading a few other reviews I have now pieced together why it bothers me so much: In fact, I think there are middle-grade books that have better, more detailed writing than this series does. Third part of the original trilogy. Very nice and this time Elena becomes Vampire and it's how she goes and deals with her new feelings.
As the gangs deals with Elena's new reality and also the fact that all the going ons are not Damon's doing. Bonnie's power are explained, Real bad guy comes forward. And the ones who have been the show they would be waiting for the different characters to appear. It's the fun if you watch the TV or Movie before the book and also true if you read the book first.
W Third part of the original trilogy. While I continue the series, you can pick this or read others and then keep on reading.
Jul 16, Siobhan rated it it was ok. I hate myself for this, but I watched the television series first. I rarely do this, but in this case I did. Had I read the books first I would not have watched the show. Whilst I have come to dislike the show I at least lasted through a number of series. If I read this c I hate myself for this, but I watched the television series first.
If I read this comment from another person I would probably roll my eyes, yet in this situation the television show is so much better. Seriously, I have never hated a main character so much — and it only gets worse as the series goes on.
Book two was a slight improvement on book one, and book three was a slight improvement on book two. Slight improvement is better than no improvement at all, but it is still not enough for me. I am…content with how things wrapped up in The Fury. It all made sense. The characters were left in plausible places within the plot. Elena's journey as a newborn vampire was interesting.
Her evolution from self-centered Queen Bee to self-sacrificing vamp was well done. I would have liked a bit more Damon, as always. I guess they could continue without Elena. Also, with Katherine returning o I am…content with how things wrapped up in The Fury. Also, with Katherine returning on the show, it was interesting to see how her reappearance was handled in the novel. Sep 26, Praveen Alluri rated it it was amazing Shelves: This book was awesome and i am not saying that just because of it's plot twists but also because of it's ending.
Now as much as i would love to hate the ending i just can't force myself. It turned into a really nice trilogy with a good ending.
Sep 18, Ray rated it liked it Shelves: I read this third installment. I found it okay. I didn't think it was amazing. I liked the ending. I wasn't blown away though. I don't find the plot to be as blazing as I had hoped. I am still struggling with whether I am more affected by the tv show and therefor the books are a let down?
I would love to hear from anyone who has read one and seen the show. I am at a crossroads as to whether or not to read any more. Paranormal romance, YA Pages: People think Stefan is a murderer, and Elena is a vampire. So everyon Stefan Tormented after losing Elena, he's determined to end the feud with his brother, Damon--whatever the cost. So everyone thinks she is dead, and are really sad. Since they all loved her, despite being with "murderer". Ok her friends are really understanding and trusty.
Come on, Stefan brutally attacked people, what is this? Why is everyone so forgiving? I don't get it. Elena finally got a backbone, but lost it. Stefan is a bore as usual, and Damon, yes he is wicked isn't he. Best part about this book, the end! Wow that was nice. Oh and Damon, still my favourite.. View all 11 comments.
May 22, Kathy Horsman rated it liked it Shelves: If I could only give you one reason to read this book, I would tell you read it for the ending. It was tragic, intense and so filled with emotion that it really turned the whole series around. She doesn't even remember who Stefan is! For that matter, who anyone is until reality starts to come back a few days later. The most tragic part of the whole thing was the fact t If I could only give you one reason to read this book, I would tell you read it for the ending.
The most tragic part of the whole thing was the fact that she never gets to deal with her emotions towards Damon. We had been flirting with this since the very first book about what she felt for each brother I'm not sure how we are going to deal with this going forward, but I hope somehow she can get closure with at least how she feels about it, and not get lost in what could have been.
Well, this was definitely better than the first two books in the series! There was a lot more happening than in the previous books, the characters were a lot more intriguing and the writing itself just felt better. These books are pretty short so perhaps that's why it's taking L. J Smith so long to actually get anywhere in the story!
I'm still not a huge fan of Elena However, I really think Damon is a fu Well, this was definitely better than the first two books in the series! However, I really think Damon is a fun and dark character and definitely adds a lot to the story.
This book has left me with more of a desire to read on, even if it still only ended up with three stars. There are no discussion topics on this book yet. Readers Also Enjoyed. Young Adult. About L.
